Thailand's New Strategy - High-worth tourists and no more tours/backpackers

Interesting article on the Tourism Mininister new stratergy for coping with the Covid-19....marketing efforts will be geared toward wealthier individuals who want holidays with minimal risks.

Thank you very much, Michael, and sorry for not having answered earlier.
To be true, after the Chinese attack of a hacker in August I lost a bit the motivation...
The other thing is a technical problem:
When somebode is opening a new issues, as you did, nobody will become aware of it automatically as members have to klick at the suscribe-button before. Well, but those who don't know yet of the existence of a new issue... except if someone would regularily check the "unread messages" (which is an additional effort; nobody does this... especially if a forum is suffering from slowly dying...).

What I found out as a solution: If creating a new subject, it helps to copy the link and the main title and to make "publicity" by posting the link and the short info in other, roughly fitting subjects where some people have already subscribed. So they can get this information.

What do you think about that? is this helpful for other network-challenges?

Thanks, bye, Harry

About your specific question: It perceive this orientation on high-value-tourists a bit like a "wet dream": Every destination is heading for high-value tourists who are nice, friendly, consuming only the best, being completely respectful, and making no noise...
...but very often high environmental impacts. Well, not necessarily.
The other side is, that of those bloddy backpackers, many people take profit who can't effort to offer high-value products.
But probably my argument comes from old-fashioned thinking...

I agree - this idea of only targeting high-net worth tourists is a day-dream - Thailand needs mulitple tourist segments - each with a specific offering - I hope they have learned their lesson from focusing on the Chinese market

Learning, uff, a tricky thing. I am convinced that people - politicians, managers.. - are much more orientated on those who pay them, or who vote for them... especially if the learnings from empirical evidence hurts. unfortunately, most of the time learning hurts... Sometimes I have the impresson that learning only takes place if it hurts.
That's why I wonder more about the question or the challenge:
How can we "empower" managers and polititions to use evidence to learn in order to prevent "more of the same"...

But this is from a European perspective. Would this approach be bullshit in the Thai- context?
