Crowdfunding

Please use this topic to share your experience and knowledge on crowdfunding in connection to tourism and tourism projects.

Crowdfunding is ...

the practice of funding a project or venture by raising money from a large number of people who each contribute a relatively small amount, typically via the Internet.

Crowdfunding Terminology: Campaign Terms

  • campaign: all activities of the project to reach out topotential supporters
  • time: (often) specified time in which to reach the funding goal
  • goal: sum of money specified by the project owner
  • threshold: minimum funding goal (where applicable)
  • maximum: maximum funding goal (where applicable)
  • rewards: material or immaterial items given to the supporter during reward-based Crowdfunding

Dear partners, at the moment we are lounching a project in Bad Gleichenberg, building a photovoltaic power station (see the picture to have an idea; it's only a model) opposite of our university building in order to signalize our testimony for sustainable energy and technology.
The money for this project will be collected by crowd founding, basing on the idea of collecting money by giving "symbolic value" in the way of symbolic certificats for small donations and little models of the photovoltaic power station for big donations.
We will see how successful we will be to collect the money by this approach and I will keep you informed.
Bye, Harry

I found this article quite interesting related to the financial management and crowdfunding during the Covid-19 situation.

Thanks, Waruth, and sorry for the late reply (well, it was lock-down 😉
Thanks for that link. I would ad one other aspect which is crucial according to many experiences: The most often reason why start-ups fail is their focus on their vision and on their own product - instead of reflecting the market, the customers, the needs of the market: communication.
You can have the best product ever, but if you are too early on the market, you will "die in the desert" as nobody will understand the meaning of this product, its importance.
Communication is not everything, but without communication, everything is nothing...

Hello! I wanted to contribute with another news about crowdfunding in tourism, but instead of from the side of the companies that offer tourism services, from the side of the individuals who demand them. This news is about a person from Valencia (Spain) who creates crowdfunding to get a wheelchair that allows him to do tourism. This highlights the importance of making destinations accessible and inclusive for everyone. Offering this type of wheelchair and other inclusive services can be a great opportunity to attract much more tourism, a latent demand that often cannot carry out tourism activities due to lack of accessibility.

Dear Lara, that's a very valuable contribution as barrier-free tourism is a big issue in the EU while there are still many things to do. This example is a very good example of integration of sharing economy, inclusiveness and sustainability. Thanks very much for that!
