by the way, I have something else for you, which is REALLY exciting: https://energiecamp.at/#konferenz
CAN TRAVEL BE A SIN?
Tourism in the age of climate change
Energy Camp Murau 2021
It's that time again - the 7th Energy Camp of Holzwelt Murau on behalf of the Province of Styria (Ich tu's) will take place on 29 and 30 April 2021.
This year, the energy camp will only take place with a limited number of participants (assuming an appropriate corona situation). We will therefore offer the event as a live stream via various channels. We have decided to make participation free of charge so that, as in previous years, we can create as low-threshold access as possible, especially for our young participants. Most of the speakers will be on site in Murau and we will therefore broadcast live from an Energy Camp TV studio. Participants who register can participate interactively via Zoom and use the chat function for questions. All other participants can follow the Energy Camp via live stream directly on the website.
This year's energy camp highlights the topic of "Climate Change & Tourism" and asks the question "Can travel be a sin?"
The creator of the ORF documentary of the same name, Hanno Settele, is one of the top-class speakers. Also with us is pioneer and thought leader Michaela Reitterer - she is chairwoman of the Austrian Hoteliers Association and owner of the boutique hotel Stadthalle in Vienna (Europe's first zero-energy balance hotel).
We are also particularly proud to have Prof. Dr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber as our speaker. He is considered one of the world's leading climate researchers, received the British Order of Merit from the Queen, sits on the Vatican's climate board, advises national governments as well as global organisations such as the UN and says: "Modernity has entered a deep crisis (Corona, climate change, social exclusion, etc.) and will have to reinvent itself. High time to think about what kind of tourism will fit into a sustainable global society."
The Austrian National Tourist Office has been dealing with such questions for some time and sent Florian Größwang, Head of Destination Management, to Murau ("From flying shame to world appropriation"). We were able to attract fifteen excellent speakers from Austria and abroad for this year's camp (the entire programme can be found here).
Here is the list of the prominent speakers: https://energiecamp.at/#vortragende including Prof. Dr. Stefan Gössling
Professor for sustainable Tourism and sustainable Mobility, University Lund in Sweden
